Counseling with Sarah
Humanity:
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who works with all ages, children through adults. I have an MA in Professional Counseling with high distinction from Liberty University, including additional coursework in addictions, healthy sexuality, counseling adolescents and crisis therapy. While identifying as Christian, I do not insist that others share that view; it is always my goal to provide an avenue for healing, to ease the burden of those who struggle, and to help others find their purpose and workable solutions that are sustainable for a lifetime.
Many years in the nursing profession inform my practice, and all components of health are considered while facilitating the healing process. A healthy body can significantly support emotional and mental health. As you evaluate your physical health in session, areas of possible improvement can be noted along with avenues to incorporate better dietary and fitness habits as you pursue health and wholeness, mentally, physically, and spiritually.
My spouse of 48 years and I moved to a little hobby farm in Ionia county during the pandemic and have settled in. We are finding the peace of country living, being in nature, seeing the corn grow, and watching the chickens scratch, makes the occasional smell of cows a small sacrifice. Our German Shepherd is always on alert for visitors (when not bothering the chickens) but has been known to be bribed with a nice biscuit despite her fierce appearance.
I work with individuals, children, couples, and family units within the Behavioral Health venue. I use a strengths-based assessment to understand your skills, then work with you to find solutions for anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, neurodiversity, or other areas. Your input is extremely valuable in treatment planning; an individualized and flexible treatment plan will be offered for your approval prior to moving forward.
Coming alongside and offering support to fellow sojourners who are navigating painful life situations is a high calling. A counseling relationship is where hope is offered and trust is earned. In this safe and confidential space, you have the opportunity to process and grow. We will work together to identify problem areas, but we will also identify areas of personal strengths which will be utilized when personalizing your treatment plan, facilitating your forward movement into a joyful life.
An eclectic approach to sessions is utilized, and modalities include cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, play therapy, mindfulness, solution-focused brief therapy, and others. While the resolution of life’s problems is the ultimate goal, finding ways to manage emotional responses during the process will help you gain hope and self-efficacy. My clients are offered tools that can become automatic with practice, and can help you get “unstuck” and experience personal growth.
